March 17, 201115 yr MWave has an 8GB flash drive on clearance for $8.99 with free shipping. The drive itself is pretty tiny, and would have a very low chance of breakage if you're moving your server around. Now for the warning. I just ordered this myself to give it a shot, but I can't confirm it works with UnRaid. When it arrives I'll post back, maybe there will still be some in stock. It's similar in design to the HP v165w, which doesn't work with UnRaid, but this is significantly smaller so I don't believe them to be rebranded versions of the same device (and the HP is 4GB). I just wanted to put this here in case anyone else was in the market for a small flash drive and willing to take a chance on one instead of going with a known good drive. http://www.mwave.com/mwave/SKUSearch.asp?px=DS&scriteria=BA42050&pagetitle=AVEXIR Edit: I have third party confirmation that all 8GB of the drive check out, and that it has a GUID. I'll update with more info as I have it.

I have no way to know if this is a fake, but mWave is pretty reliable. There are many "fake/counterfeit" drives that exist on e-bay, and "report" they are the advertised size, but when tested with actual data, are much smaller. (data written to the higher address ranges either is not written, or overwrites data in the lower address ranges.) There are flash drive "test" programs that write to every sector and then read back what they've written to be certain the entire drive is functional. Just beware... If one person said it failed a memory test, it might just have been a defective flash drive... but you never know. March 17, 201115 yr Author I'll give it a full test when it comes in. I can't check out that site you posted because it's blocked at work, as it apparently has a "Poor reputation," whatever that means. Stupid work filters. Anyway, MWave itself is not exactly disreputable, and as Superorb said, this is their house brand. I'm not terribly concerned they're lying about its capacity. It was more likely that it was simply a failed drive. Either way, I'll put it through its paces when it arrives and report back. Worst case, I can complain loudly to customer service they sold me a fake drive.
March 17, 201115 yr Author As a note here, a SlickDeals thread was started on this drive. I was able to get confirmation from someone who had one already that it passes the 8GB verification check, and that is also appears to have a valid GUID according to usbdeview (having them attempt to install UnRaid to get the GUID is too much to ask of a random person on the internet ). So, it looks like chances are good that this will work with UnRaid.
March 23, 201115 yr Author Well, it it looks like this drive would have worked just fine with UnRaid. It boots, is not fake, and has a serial number. Unfortunately, mine arrived defective. Every once in awhile, it would fail on a read, and disconnect itself from Windows. When I would reconnect it, the filesystem would be hosed. This happened quite a few times, as I suspected USB hubs as causing the problem initially. That wasn't the case. So, back it goes. Disappointing too, because it was perfect for this purpose. It stuck out from the USB port only about 1/4".
