November 12, 200718 yr Okay, I'm always frustrated I cannot get my files to show the correct creation date. I suspect I'm using the GUI wrong to set things but I know my M/B has the right time or did when I set it up. Today I decided to fix this! I'm EST so that is GMT +5. Setting this in the GUI with my real time and GMT+5 results in time WAY off. I dug up the Linux date command and checked it from as Telnet prompt. When set for +5 date shows -5, when I use -5 it shows +5 - and the correct time. Seems like there's a bug here that's simple enough to work around and hopefully to fix!
November 12, 200718 yr It's not a bug, it is a feature. You are correct, +5 does equal -5. Just think of yourself setting your clock so GMT is plus 5 hours, rather than thinking that EST is 5 hours behind GMT. Obviously, two different ways of stating the same thing, looking at it from opposite ends of the time zone gap. The date command uses the one nomenclature, the time zone library routines in Linux use the other when setting up a zoneinfo file. They are both working as designed. So it is not a bug... it is (confusing) feature. I complained about the same thing... long ago.. See this thread for a laugh or two... http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=33.0 When I was trying to figure it out there was a bug where the new timezone setting did not take effect until you rebooted. At least you did not run into that one. (Tom fixed it) Joe L.
November 14, 200718 yr Author I do vaguely recall this coming up now but it sure was a head scratcher this time around. Didn't we also have the ability to contact an NTP server at one time? I no longer see that and thought it was great at the time. Oddly, I went into the BIOS tonight to check something and noticed the time was set way different. I didn't muck with it this time, the silly thing is showing correct times for once and I don't want to knock it off again!
