Lots of disk failures/errors

Featured Replies

I have had a problem for a while now where every little while I'll notice a drive will start to produce errors, a smart check doesn't show any problem with the drive but eventually the errors will start to exponentially increase and other drives will also start getting errors. A couple times I thought it was just a problem drive that was causing it but I removed that drive and it would work again for a while until it would start to happen again.

It just happened a again the other day to a drive that I didn't have media on so I removed it from the array temporarily and today another drive that I recently put in started getting millions of errors.

Fix Common Problems shows my /Var/Log as being 100% full. I'm not sure what could be causing all of this but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on where to start. I supplied my Diagnostics here.

Thanks for the help!

Disk dropped offline, this is usually a connection/power problem, but since it's offline there's no SMART report to check.

Ok, so you think the issue that keeps happening is because a disk or disks are losing connection and causing the errors because of that?

I can only speak for this one, but yes, if healthy disks keep dropping it's most likely a connection/power problem.

Thank you. It makes sense that it would be some sort of connection issue. I am looking into that. I appreciate you taking the time to look at the diagnostics.
