I have seen cables that claim convert mini SAS to 4 SATA plugs.

 

This is a double barrelled question:

 

1. Do these cables do what it looks like they do i.e. allow you to plug a standard SATA card into a caddy with a mini-SAS / iSAS / SFF8087 backplane

2. In this scenario what end is the HOST and what is the TARGET
