help - did my root password corrupt or change on its own?

Featured Replies

this morning my root is failing. tried putty too but fail too. i was logging in fine yesterday, and the password is saved in bitwarden so im not mistyping them. any ideas what may have caused this? server still seems to be running fine as i can access my smbs, reverse proxies, plex, etc. but somehow my root webgui login is no longer working.

i see the flash steps to reset pw, but i cant do a clean shutdown. any suggestions? just hard shutdown?

Are you sure you haven't just forgotten the password?

Is your server accessible from the internet?

Do you have syslog server setup?

I dont have the syslog setup unfortunately.. I will definitely do that once I get back in.

I login with bitwarden so i cannot forget my root password or mistype it

server still seems to be running normally, i can get into my home assistant vm, dockers via reverse prxy, etc.  just my root login to webgui is somehow failing overnight
