March 30, 201115 yr Hi! I have seven disks in my array (all between 1 and 1,5 TB). Today I will receive my first 4K drive which has to be my new parity drive. I would like to assign the old parity drive as a data drive. In the disk settings I entered for: Default partition format: MBR: 4K aligned. So far I understand I don't need to 'jumper' the new WD20EARS. Is there something import which I should keep in mind while upgrading the array? Bye.
March 30, 201115 yr You do not need to do anything else, other than to stop the array, swap in the new drive and then restart the array... However, about 1 in 5 drives lately have failed in an initial few hours of use. I strongly advise you run the preclear_disk.sh script on the new drive before assigning it to your array. It will give it a good burn-in before you trust it with your parity calcs. At least, after an initial burn in, the disk will have gotten past those first few hours. Joe L.
March 30, 201115 yr Author Hi! I will do. Is there any special parameter for the 4k drives I have to use when running the script? Bye.

If you use the most current version of the script, it will use the setting you've elected in the unRAID settings screen as its default. You can use the "-A" option to force a partition starting on sector 64 (MBR: 4k-aligned), or "-a" to force one starting on sector 63 (MBR: unaligned), and the script will then ignore the unRAID setting. Please download the most current preclear script. It has been updated a lot in the past few months.
March 30, 201115 yr Author Hi! Thanks Joe. Preclear is running....and it uses the setting of the unRAiD-GUI. Nice! Bye.
