IRQ problem causing lockup

Featured Replies

I'm getting this message:

Message from syslogd@Tower at Tue Nov 27 09:20:56 2007 ...

Tower kernel: [  680.100565] Disabling IRQ #7

And then the whole server locks up.

How do I go about troubleshooting this?  Thanks.

I sure do wish I could post my syslog  :-\

Irq is usually reserved for parallel port if motherboard has one. Maybe you should set irq 7 for isa / non plug&play from bios. That might help. Or just try changing plug&play os setting in bios to another setting might help as well. I think you should try that first.

I have both the Serial Port and the Parallel Port addresses disabled.

Plug and Play O/S is set the NO.

Allocate IRQ to PCI VGA is set to Yes.

All IRQ slots are set to PCI Device.

I'll change the plug and play setting to Yes and see what that does.

Same problem showed up with changing the Plug and Play setting.

Interesting though.  I hooked up a monitor and KB for the first time today.    The tower isn't actually locking up.  I think I'm just losing network connection.    I can't telnet and the web config is gone, but the tower is still running.    So maybe the IRQ 7 is network related?    Hmmm.

I changed IRQ 7 to reserved (the only other option other than PCI DEVICE).  I'll see what that does.

Well.  That fixed it.    Seems to be stable now.  Strange.

Maybe disabling irq7 on your motherboard didn't disable it fully. Atleast now you know to keep away from irq 7 on that motherboard :)
