April 3, 201115 yr I want to switch the fans in this, http://www.supermicro.com/products/accessories/mobilerack/CSE-M35T-1.cfm For these since there faster and move more air, http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999613&cm_re=92mm-_-11-999-613-_-Product Now my question is, do you think they would work? It looks like the normal 3 pin fan connector on the enclosure so in theory it should work right? Also do you think I would be voiding the warranty by replacing the fan? Here is the pinout of what the 3 pin looks like on the enclosure as well, So what do you think? Is this worth the swap would you think? I've read a couple reviews that say the stock fans don't keep the drives that cool and make alot of noise. I have also emailed super micro about this but it says it can take up to a week for a reply Also think it would work as this fan gets power from the 4 pin molex but has a 3 pin for the RPM sensor. So I was wondering if the enclosures fan failure might go off cause it's not drawing power from the unit but only using the RPM sensor?

That is a lot of air and very loud for a fan. I do think this fan would work (just double check the depth). The three pin connector should power it. If, for any reason, the alarm went off, there is a jumper to disable the alarm. As I said, this fan moves a tremendous about of air and would be loud - likely a lot louder than the ones you'd be replacing. I have yet to hear anyone complain that the stock fans did not cool adquately, only that they were loud. Are you having a temperature issue with the stock fan? If not, you should look for a similar CFM fan with a lower dBa rating. If you search the forums you'll find some recommendations from Raj and Weebo (I am running the stock fan in my build). But if the drives are running hot in this unit with the stock fan, I think it is likely due to insufficient case cooling, or else your ambient is too hot. Remember, however as much air you push into the case, you need to be pulling that much out (some say a bit more to create negative pressure inside the case). Otherwise the extra CFM does more harm than good.
April 3, 201115 yr I have the same cage and am running the stock fan in it with 5 drives, one being my 2TB parity drive. Temps never go above 32. That vantec fan would be REALLY loud. Shawn
April 4, 201115 yr Author Thanks guys, I've yet to receive them (the enclosures) yet but I just read the reviews of people saying the stock fans are no good so I looked to replace them and plus the modder in me is just screaming to swap them out but I'll see how the stock do at first. You mention there is a jumper to disable fan warnings, does the enclosure come with the jumper piece itself or do you need to take one off a hard drive or something? Thanks alot guys.
April 4, 201115 yr Mine came with all the jumpers and screws I needed. On mine, the fan buzzer was disabled, so I had to remove the jumper to enable it. Put the jumper back in the box so I don't lose that one. Shawn
April 4, 201115 yr Here's the fans I used with the Supermicro cages: GELID Solutions FN-PX09-20 92mm Case Fan Good balance between price, performance, and noise levels.
