Planning new UnRaid Migration [SOLVED]

Featured Replies

Hi there

I am planning to consolidate various sources into one unraid server

will this work ? :

1- create a fresh unraid server and a array with 2 HDs and no parity

2- shutdown the server, remove the drives and install them on another machine

3- copy files (using a reiserFS driver or a linux installation)

4- reinstall the drives in the unraid server

5- start the array

6- stop the array and add a parity drive

7- start the array, starting the parity calculation

8- parity protected 3-drive unraid server complete!

or this ?:

1- use an existing 2-drive + parity unraid array

2- shutdown the server

3- move the data disks to another machine

4- copy more data

5- reinstall the drives in the unraid server

6- start the array forcing a recalculation of the parity

thanks

Great... Thanks!

Here's another scenario:

1- from a current linux installation, format 2 HDs as reiserFS and copy data

2- install those discs on another machine

3- boot from a fresh unraid usb drive with no previous configuration

4- assign the drives as data drives

5- add another drive and assign as parity

6- start the array

will this work ?

Great... Thanks!

It will work ONLY if the partition is set up exactly as unRAId would have set it up, otherwise it will be treated as a foreign disk and cleared.

I'd use unRAID to create the file systems, then move the drives physically, then move them back. (with the risks of damage in the movement activity either physically or by ESD damage)

great

thanks for the help
