December 1, 200718 yr I added 2 500GB drives today and I already had a 500GB as the Parity drive. But the array would not seem to start. The start button was grayed out. I run headless but did not see any indication of a problem on the web page. Thinking perhaps the new drives are slightly bigger then the old one I swapped one for the original parity drive and unRAID did its thing. I was then able to add the old parity drive and the other new drive into the system. OR....... Perhaps I just missed the little check box that says "yes I'm sure" that needs to be checked before the start button is active. However.... I'm sorta half sure it was not there the first time around. I've tried to find more details on these drives but have not yet found it. Can someone tell me if these two drives are slightly different sizes then each other. ST3500320AS - Newer and ST3500630AS - Older Both are 500GB Seagate drives. They have different amounts of on board cache. Does unRAID think the newer one is slightly bigger then the older one or did I just not see the check box the first time I put them in?
December 1, 200718 yr Look at the main screen of your web interface and compare the dirve size numbers. That will tell you exactly what number of bytes unRAID is seeing. it is entirely possible that 2 "500gb" drives show up as slightly different in size.
December 2, 200718 yr Author The web interface reports them as exactly the same. I was kind of hoping there may be a sector difference or something that would explain it yet still have them be the same exact size in the web interface. The alternative is the fact that I must have simply not seen the check box. Oh well. I can live with that. Thanks.
December 2, 200718 yr My short experience tells me you need to stop the array after adding the 3rd drive, go into devices and assign the 3rd drive. Then check that little box, the "start" button would lit up and you can start clearing.
