Motherboard SATA headers won't accept Locking SATA cables?

Featured Replies

I have my new mobo installed, but it doesn't want to accept any of the SATA cables that came with my cages. The cables all have locking tabs, and I think the connector is made for non-locking cables. Pretty stupid as all connectors should be able to use locking SATA cables since their emergence with SATA2 drives. I can't exactly see if things will fit since the SATA headers face the cages, and it's pretty cramped in that spot. I may end up sending this board back unfortunately. Any ideas? Out of 68 reviews, not one mentions a problem with locking cables. Surely I cannot be the only person using locking cables with this board.

Foxconn A7DA 3.0

I removed the board from the case, and sure enough, there is no space for a locking cable. What gets me is that Foxconn makes almost all of the SATA headers for other companies' boards and hard drives, and they almost always accept locking SATA cables. That's just plain cheap and exclusionary if you ask me.

So, now I can either modify my locking cables or send the board back and start looking for another one :(

I think this will be the case with a lot of the motherboards that put their SATA connectors like that, stacked and facing outward. There is just no room. I had the same problem with a Gigabyte board I had. I ripped the locking connector off. :)

I was looking at pics form Newegg for side-facing SATA headers, and MSI and a few other brands all include locking SATA cables, so the headers must also be able to accept those very same locking cables. I tried pulling off the clips, but the connector is still larger in size and they don't fit without forcing them, plus it's loose once forced in place. I guess I'll be sending this back to Newegg to exchange for the $80 Jetway board.

Probably your best bet at this point... Start fresh with something that works correctly...

I ordered the Jetway board a few hours ago, and I'm sending the Foxconn board back later today. Turns out that Foxconn board had a replacement-only return policy that I didn't notice before. The Jetway does not have any such restrictions. Hopefully they'll ship today so I can have the board Wednesday and be up and running by Thursday. I'm running out of space quick.
