Can I have two nics, one with a dynamic ip the other static?

Featured Replies

What I’d like to do is pick up a couple of cheap 10gbe nics off eBay and wire them directly from my Windows PC to my Unraid setup. I’d use the 2nd Ethernet gigabit ports in each setup normally.  This way I’d be able to maximize my transfers from my PC to my NAS rather than be stuck with my home gigabit network.

Am I thinking about this properly? My PC and Nas are close to each other and I’m thinking that wiring them directly would be relatively easy without being limited to my home gigabit network.

I can't think of any reason why it would not work.  Just make sure that the Static IP addresses that you assign will not conflict with any other addresses that these two computers might see on the standard network.
