New Guy - Disk Encryption Issues

Hi everyone,

Testing out unraid currently. I am finding that for my future media server and dealing with expansion unraid seems to be the way to go for me at least. (Test proxmox and TrueNAS, currently running windows but hate dealing with multiple drive letter or having to build new arrays)

So in the midst of testing this all out I was using a dinky dell Inspiron with a Celeron CPU and 4 GB of ram. Well I'm off from work for a while but i stopped back in my office to pick up some of my old equipment. Got a 4th Gen i5, z97, 32GB Ram, and more hard drives (2 4TB which i was testing on Dell, and another 2 TB and 3 1TB drives, PERC H310) So I got it all going, moved my drives over booted up, and it was giving me an encryption issue on one of the drives. No big deal there was only test media for Plex on there. The other drive I was able to mount. Now i wanted to expand. I added the other drives to the array and tossed in the encryption password (Same as the other drives), formatted the new drives, but wouldn't mount the original 4TB which has all my app data. I am about to mount it and view all data by going to /mnt/disks/diskname/ and just copying the appdata copy using cp -R to the other 4Tb that has now been re-encrypted (using a keyfile this time which is pretty cool i think).

Now not sure if there was a better way to go about this 1) I Did move to a new PC so not sure if that was the cause of it 2) when I tired to start the array the first time it asked for me to input the password and I did. Was weird how one drive unlocked but not the other. 3) even when trying to make an array with only the 1 good working drive it still wouldn't unlock it and wanted to format.

Now I have zero information that isn't rebuildable as this is all a test. These are my two questions. 1) what could cause 1 drive to mount and 1 not to mount and why am I not able to re-add the one working drive by itself when i can mount it when it is unassigned 2) Best way to go about something like this in the future. Last thing i need to do is lose data and want to know best course of action to take in a case like this.

Thanks
