  1. As a Windows/Bitlocker users looking to move to unraid, I'm on the same page as all of you who want auto unlock. My question is why hasn't unraid enabled TPM support yet for this? Also one thing I have done for clients who need Encryption on PC/Servers running windows 10 but don't have TPM support is to use a USB drive with the key file on it and run a 15ft USB extension to another location while plugged into the server/PC and that drive can even be in a locked or hidden location. If someone is really there to "Steal" your hardware they are just going to unplug everything and go. They aren't going to want to track every cable to check. So with that in mind how would one go on modifying the scrips above for that? Otherwise my next option might be to do a VM and do the above and passthrough the USB drive since it seems passing though the TPM is more of a hassle.
  2. Hi everyone, Testing out unraid currently. I am finding that for my future media server and dealing with expansion unraid seems to be the way to go for me at least. (Test proxmox and TrueNAS, currently running windows but hate dealing with multiple drive letter or having to build new arrays) So in the midst of testing this all out I was using a dinky dell Inspiron with a Celeron CPU and 4 GB of ram. Well I'm off from work for a while but i stopped back in my office to pick up some of my old equipment. Got a 4th Gen i5, z97, 32GB Ram, and more hard drives (2 4TB which i was testing on Dell, and another 2 TB and 3 1TB drives, PERC H310) So I got it all going, moved my drives over booted up, and it was giving me an encryption issue on one of the drives. No big deal there was only test media for Plex on there. The other drive I was able to mount. Now i wanted to expand. I added the other drives to the array and tossed in the encryption password (Same as the other drives), formatted the new drives, but wouldn't mount the original 4TB which has all my app data. I am about to mount it and view all data by going to /mnt/disks/diskname/ and just copying the appdata copy using cp -R to the other 4Tb that has now been re-encrypted (using a keyfile this time which is pretty cool i think). Now not sure if there was a better way to go about this 1) I Did move to a new PC so not sure if that was the cause of it 2) when I tired to start the array the first time it asked for me to input the password and I did. Was weird how one drive unlocked but not the other. 3) even when trying to make an array with only the 1 good working drive it still wouldn't unlock it and wanted to format. Now I have zero information that isn't rebuildable as this is all a test. These are my two questions. 1) what could cause 1 drive to mount and 1 not to mount and why am I not able to re-add the one working drive by itself when i can mount it when it is unassigned 2) Best way to go about something like this in the future. Last thing i need to do is lose data and want to know best course of action to take in a case like this. Thanks
  3. Hello everyone, Been doing some extensive searching the past few days for a Dell SAS 5/iR Raid Card that runs a LSISAS1068 Chip NOT a 1068E which is what this thread has. I have found a few places that show how to flash using the LSI firmware but I can not for the life of them find the firmware. All the links in all the site i have found are bad (Linking to LSI Old download site). This card was pulled from a clients server of mine because it took a dump. Had a replacement ordered and got them on their merry way. Right before i was about to toss the card i realized the capacitors on it were bad. Just two of them. I replaced them and volia! good as new. I play on using it to run a Raid 0 with my two Samsung HD204UI. Then plan on buying a 4TB to use as my backup drive (Right now i keep one samsung in the PC and another in my safe for when i make a backup of it) I did see something in post 453 about using the bios from a LSI SAS 3081X-R? I want to keep the raid function. it currently has the stock firmware and Bios of 00.06.50.00.06.06.00.02. I have tired updating using the dell firmware but it just doesn't see the card at all. Don't know if its because it must be in a dell server or not. The reason why i want to flash though is because from what i have read flashing with a LSI Firmware and Bios will allow me to create a raid 10 which yes i can't right now but will in the future. It doesn't matter to me that this is a Sata II 3Gbps card because these are strickly storage drives only and i only boot my desktop up to store new files to it really. Don't stress your self out on the issue. No need to do any extensive research on this. If all i can get is a Raid 0 for now so be it not gonna kill me at this moment. Just wanted to see if anyone has some knowledge on it to lend me a hand.
