April 29, 201115 yr Right, I am using OSX. I recently copied my entire media folder over to a share on the unRAID server, my external drive disconnected after 1.4 of 1.6 TB so the transfer stopped. Now I wanted to delete what was already transferred. There are however a few folders and files which I cannot delete. I constantly get an error message reading: "The operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access some of the items" I am doing this delete process via the Finder as I don't know much about command line yet. Again: I am trying to delete a folder off the share, however certain files within the folder cannot be deleted. Apparently due to permissions. Please help I am still new to this whole linux/commandline/unRAID thing, but bar a few hiccups, the system is great!
April 29, 201115 yr Author I also should add: I have manged to get in via command line (putty on windows 7) I can see the specific folder ("Musik" on disk4). When I try to delete (rmdir) it comes back with: "Read-only file system" I then tried to chmod the permissions to 777, but again it says: "chmod: changing permissions of 'Musik': Read-only file system" I don't quite know what to do but I really want to get rid of this folder with all its contents. Help would be greatly appreciated!
April 29, 201115 yr Can you delete/create other files off the same disk? See if anything is locked, that has caused issues with me before.
April 29, 201115 yr Author No none of the items are locked. As I said, deleting or changing permissions via Telnet was also unsuccessful, the message back is always that it is a read-only system. Maybe it is down to a recent unclean shutdown. I have now tried deleting files out of other folders on disk4, same error. What to do? It seams as though the entire drive is read-only! I have now found in a different thread that it may be a good idea to run fsck to check for errors. We'll see what happens then!

EDIT: ran fsck, found 1 error, and even though the wiki post suggested I be very careful I ran --rebuild-tree switch after fsck recommended it. Hopefully all will be well and I won't lose too much data!
April 29, 201115 yr Occasionally I run across the stubborn file/folder in OS X that I can't delete for whatever reason, where even restarting the computer would not resolve it. For those rare situations, I turn to BatChmod (available at http://www.macchampion.com/arbysoft/BatchMod/Download.html), a nifty utility for manipulating permissions but it's most useful tool for me is the ability to Force Empty Trash.
April 29, 201115 yr Author Well, the tree rebuild finished, drive is back, everything is good! Here's to hoping that will never happen again!
