Syslog errors with a side of extra disk spinups. For here.

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I installed two new 2TB drives in my box, and started getting these syslog-filling errors after I booted and added the drives.  Also, disks 1 & 3 (at least)  seem to spin up for no apparent reason.  Like when I am at work!  I have not changed spinup groups or anything, I have unmenu, cache dirs, sick, sab, and others installed, but nothing crazy, running 4.7.

The errors seem to arrive after the mover script, but I don't know why, and don't speak syslog, unfortunately.  :)

Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

Oh, and in case anyone remembers or cares, the awful network problems I was having have been cured by leaving the router to DHCP assign addresses.  Might be something to try if you are having network issues and don't have a cavalcade of people coming to get on and off your network.  It's literally the ONLY way it works.  Weird.

Syslog attached, thanks again!

One of your drives is having a problem. I need a syslog showing startup to determine which one.

Disk 2 shows some errors. But I think disk8 is causing the mvsas errors.

Ok...can you tell me why maybe?  What is an mvsas error?  And what errors from disk2?

mvsas entries:

/usr/src/sas/trunk/mvsas_tgt/mv_sas.c 2069:port 3 ctrl sts=0x189800.

disk2:

May 14 10:00:08 Tower kernel: ata4: translated ATA stat/err 0x01/04 to SCSI SK/ASC/ASCQ 0xb/00/00

May 14 10:00:08 Tower kernel: ata4: status=0x01 { Error }

May 14 10:00:08 Tower kernel: ata4: error=0x04 { DriveStatusError }

Post SMART reports for those drives.
