May 26, 20224 yr Maybe shoulda left well enough alone. Previous version has been working fine. Backed up the flash drive and have the zip on my laptop. Upgrade appeared to go ok and then it said it needed a reboot. Reboot went ok but when I tried logging in, it would not take my password and after a few tries, it said too many failed logins. So, I tried using the method here: https://wiki.unraid.net/Manual/Troubleshooting#Lost_root_Password Lost root Password Occasionally users lose their password for managing Unraid via the Unraid webGUI or console. This may be that they simply forgot the password, but corruption of the flash drive can also result in the password not being recognized. Passwords for shares can be changed/reset from the Unraid webGUI. To reset the management password, use the following process: Shutdown server and then plug the USB boot flash device into a PC or Mac While there it is a good idea to run a check on the flash drive and make a backup of its contents Delete these files: config/passwd config/shadow config/smbpasswd Plug the flash back into the server and start up again. Note that this will reset all user passwords including ‘root’ user to null (blank). After trying that, it goes through the boot process and immediately restarts. Tried extracting the zipped boot flash file to a spare blank usb2 drive. Using that to boot, plenty of messages that it can't find hardware, including network card. Can't even get to a login screen. any help would be appreciated.

What I am assuming is that this is the original boot disk with the three files (listed) deleted. (Double check this!!!) Make sure that you have a monitor attached to your server. Now boot the server with that flash drive. 1-- Does the monitor boot to the point where you have a login prompt on it? If not, get a sharp in-focus picture of the monitor screen and post it up up in a new post in this thread. 2-- If yes, then try the GUI, do you get a login prompt? (IF not, what is the error message from the browser?) IF you get the login prompt on the GUI, enter root as the 'Username' and hit the <ENTER> key in the 'Password' field. (This enters a blank password.) If this does not work, try to login from the Username and password prompts on the console/(monitor). That should work. Then type this at the command prompt: diagnostics After it finishes, type: powerdown Remove the flash drive and upload the diagnostics file in a new post. EDIT: Quicker way to shutdown server is a quick push ~ one second) of the power button. This will result in a clean shutdown. (A +5 second push will force a shutdown which will result in an 'unclean' shutdown. Using it is not an end of the world situation with Unraid, so use it if you have to for any reason.) May 26, 20224 yr Author Thanks for the ideas, but after fiddling with it enough, I finally got it to boot without it going into the loop and logged on from my laptop. Then told it to revert to Version: 6.9.2 and after more fiddling, it seems to be back to pre-upgrade normal. I'm going to wait awhile to upgrade until I'm certain the kinks are out. I saw somewhere that powering down completely help in some of the reboot loop situations. And it seemed to. Thanks for the help. Mike Edited May 26, 20224 yr by MikeGNola
