Whats the correct split level for this share structure?

Featured Replies

I'm new to unraid and have been struggling to fully understand split level.  I've read most of the guides I can find but I'm still a little unsure. This is the file structure that I'm planning on using for my share.  The only question is what split level do I use to have the tv series to never be split among the drives? Individual movies can go on whatever drive, but I would like all seasons of a tv series to stay together on one drive if possible.  Based on the guides I've read I'm thinking split level 5 as that is how far down the series folder is? This would also make it that each music album would always stay together as well? But I'm unsure. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

I would lower the split to keep types of media together... Assuming fairly large drives and the intent to let them spin down. I keep my drives almost single purpose so that once spun up, it can continue to perform the most likely next request.

My movie disk for example may only spin up for a few hours a week, while my music disk is spun up about 6 hours a day.

I would do that but i really want to use hard links and i can't do that if they're on different shares unless I'm misunderstanding something? The only real goal I'm trying to achieve is that all seasons of a tv show are on the same disk, but I'm still unsure on what split level accomplishes that with the structure i provided.

What program are you trying to access them through?

Plex and Trying to setup hard linking from sonarr/deluge.

I don't think what I'm recommending precludes Sonarr from working... I use it here, though I do have to move the files from the download folder into my collections... I kinda view that as a sanity check.

As for Plex, that's why I have it set up the way I do.
