I don't know what type of switch I need/want yet so far I have all this in the living room to connect to it,

Possible folding rigs x2-4  if I really get into it I'll probably go crazy on these

 

 

My other 3 ports on the router will be taken and used right at the source by my pc bed room xbox, If I can get a USB to Ethernet port addon thing? I got about 6 external hard drives that would be lovely if put on my network. Does anyone know of anything like that by any chance? Thanks for any help in advance, looking forward to making this a awesome little project.

I count way more than 5 devices there....  Check Good Deals I just posted about a 5 port green TRENDnet switch for $19.99.  At that price you may be able to get more than one.  This would also enable their use in more than one room.

TRENDnet's 8 port was recently on sale for $25.  I got it at $30 with free shipping from Newegg, and it's been working very well for me.

 

I'd wait for it go back down under $30, at least.

Now I'm pissed I paid $30 for it last month

I have a Trendnet 8 port and 5 port.  Both work like champs.  I have never power cycled either of them and they have been running 24/7 since around January.  They also support Jumbo frames.

I'm Canadian so I got a little bit of a choice to pick, each one you guys listed is not there but the following are.

Get the 8 port, obviously.  3 more ports for the same price...

If you want gigabit, stick with either the TEG-S80G or the TEG-S50G, the 16-port is 10/100.

If the Wii can go wireless you could squeak by with an 8-port.  To add the folding rig(s), you'll need either the 16-port switch or a second switch daisy chained.  Switch-to-switch used to require a crossover ethernet cable, but these switches detect and adjust internally so a standard ethernet cable will work fine.

Does it matter how much "mac" it has? I see some with 1k some with 4k and one series with 8k will that affect anything?

I'm no network expert, but unless you plan to have more than 1000 devices in your network, I don't think it will matter.
