Drives suddenly unmountable

Featured Replies

File system: XFS

Hi guys
I started out today with the issue that i suddenly no longer could login on Unraid OS PRO V. 6.9.2
After following the manual https://wiki.unraid.net/Manual/Troubleshooting#Lost_root_Password and deleting the three files
config/passwd

config/shadow

config/smbpasswd

i was able to login, however a new issue now occoured

all my disks are suddenly unmountable, i therefore tried to go and set a new password for the root user however i just goes back to the old password instantly.

After some time i then tried to run the system in Safe Mode, here all files can be access in Unraid but no drive shares work as well no passwords for users are needed.

Any ideas how to solve this matter?

There is an alternative procedure that can be used for just resetting the root password (but is a little more prone to error):

Plug the USB drive into another computer

Bing up an editor (such as Notepad++) on the following file:

/boot/config/shadow

On the first line you should see something such as:

root:$&$&%*1112233484847648DHD$%.:15477:0:99999:7:::

Change that line to the following (essentially delete the content between the first and second semi-colons):

root:15477:0:99999:7:::

Plug flash back into server and start up again.
