Can't connect UPS anymore: USB disconnect

Featured Replies

Hello, my UPS isn't working anymore and keeps disconnecting.

Because I set the time when my server should shutdown in case of a power outage wrong my server instantly shutdown. I then unplugged the USB cable from my UPS (CyberPower VP700ELCD) and started my server back up. I then set the time back to what it was supposed to be and plugged in the USB cable but the NUT Plugin couldn't be started. My logs kept saying:

Aug 21 03:55:25 takezo kernel: usb 1-4: USB disconnect, device number 15
Aug 21 03:55:39 takezo kernel: usb 1-3: new low-speed USB device number 16 using xhci_hcd
Aug 21 03:55:39 takezo kernel: hid-generic 0003:0764:0501.000E: hiddev96,hidraw0: USB HID v1.10 Device [CPS VP700ELCD] on usb-0000:00:14.0-3/input0takezo-diagnostics-20220821-0403.zip

I then restarted the server hoping that it would solve my problem but it didn't. I also tried different USB ports and uninstalling the NUT plugin but the UPS keeps disconnecting.

When I clicked on auto-detect in the NUT plugin settings my UPS sometimes was correctly detected but sometimes the dialog window was empty (probably depending on whether the UPS was connected or disconnected again).

I hope someone can help me. Thank you.

It may be as simple as your UPS isn't working anymore (your words, not mine).

Is there another way, without using Unraid, to test your UPS? Will a Windows or MAC box happily rely on it?

Thanks for your answer. I just tried connecting it to my Windows PC and it immediately got detected and seems to work fine.

Mine is doing the exact same thing, works on any other machine, but repeatedly on Unraid just keeps cycling USB:

And it will just keep going until I unplug it...

SOLVED:

Manually selected the "Usbhid-ups" driver in NUT and NUT grabbed the device before it had chance to disconnect again.

Appears its something to do with the device firmware having a really short timeout if the device isn't captured by the appropriate driver in time.
