GPU for Plex and VM

Featured Replies

Planning ahead my unraid server. I am curious if it is possible to install a Plex media server and a VM windows for gaming. I am planning to buy a dedicated graphic card for the setup. Can I use the graphic card for both.

Once any HW element is passed through a VM, it is not available for the host (dockers in your case) or another VM.

But a Plex server docker does not require access to a graphic card to work. It can however ease some load from the CPU.

You could also have Plex use the iGPU from your CPU (if applicable).

Thank you. I have bought a i5 12400. How much cores of the 6 available cores should I reserve for the windows VM and how much from the cores should I reserve for the unraid. Purpose of unraid is storage, Plex, maybe cloud. VM is for gaming from time to time.
