September 15, 20223 yr Hi, I have a share setup on my Windows 10 computer but when I try to edit file names it says the following: You need permission to perform this action You require permission from MATTPLEX\root to make changes to this file. Is there a setting somewhere I need to enable to allow me to edit file names? It would be a lot easier for me to use windows rather than Krusader as I'm unable to copy and paste text using Krusader. Thanks
September 15, 20223 yr Community Expert This is going to be interesting. I suspect that some changes have been made in Samba which is causing this problem. Can you install this plugin? https://forums.unraid.net/topic/120982-dynamix-file-manager/ I suspect you might be able... IT will probably show something like this: And the equivalent Linux command line for the same directory: Before a some point in the past, I believe that the Owner was nobody and the Group was user I suspect that something changed to affect this prior behavior. (It could just be that I moved from everything being Public file access to a Private mode.) Look at your file system, see what you are seeing and we can work from there.
September 15, 20223 yr Author Solution Hi Frank1940, Thanks, I have installed the Fix Common Problems docker plugin and run the Docker Safe New Perms under Tools and that looks like it has fixed it. I have been able to edit two file names I tested it on. Thanks

But any files written in the future could still have the same problem. (I suspect that It depends on which SMB user first wrote the file--- hence, 'owns' it) and if a second SMB user who ***supposedly*** has read-write privileges to that Share tries to work with the file.)

I'm the only one that has access to the share, no other users on the Unraid server. I just tested editing the name of a new file and it worked OK for me. Do you think I should still install the plugin you mentioned above though?
September 15, 20223 yr Community Expert Yes, It is a recent addition that will do most (if not all) of the things that Krusader can do. I suspect that it is a bit more useful that Krusader in its standard configuration. For example, it can access the Flash drive which Krusader cannot unless you change its PUID and PGID. (I do believe that the author of this plugin is also the developer for Unraid's GUI so it is not a fly-by-night developer project.)

I just installed it and it looks like a great addition to Plex and I like that you don't have to open a separate window to use it. This is what I see when accessing my share folders.
