where did my server go? (static IP FTW) [SOLVED]

Featured Replies

shut down my unraid server as I was having some electrical work done. Turned it back on this morning and I can't find it!

Most likely it has been given a new IP address by the router, but I'm having difficulty finding it. As soon as I can I'll go in and make it static, but first I need to find it.

Using OSX, I've tried 'ping 192.168.1.255 which should return all IP addresses of devices on the network, but that doesn't seem to do the trick. I've tried 'attached devices' in both my router and my time capsule but that only seems to show wireless devices.

Any other suggestions? Oddly, 'tower' shows up in the sidebar in finder and I can browse the shares. But I can't see what IP address it has from there

oh well, brute forced it. Sat there in a terminal window telnetting until I hit a password request. got lucky-it was only on 1.16 so didn't take too long.

Then had issues with changing the settings in unraid as safari on the mac doesn't like 'tower' IP addresses. So had to boot my kids' laptop up to do it. (I have tower set up for 1.22 in the hosts file, but didn't want to change it all over again)

Check your router to see assigned IP addresses and set a static reservation in the router. You will have fewer problems if you leave all host as dynamic and mange addresses centrally in your router.
