Lagging Windows VM after reboots

Featured Replies

Hi there

If I reboot (shutting down and starting, some time later, again) my Windows 10 VM a few times (2-3 times), it starts to lag. The lag occurs every 20-30 seconds and lasts for about 1 second, which is incredibly annoying. The only solution is to restart the whole Unraid server, and the VM runs smoothly again. Does anyone know what is the reason and how to fix it?

Thanks for any help!

The issue occurs on Windows 10 and Windows 11, it doesn't matter which of them I load, the lags are the same. When the lags beginns, I can run Windows 10, then shut it down, start Windows 11, and still get the same lags.

611.1 has update qemu and libvirt so may be different are you able to try 6.11.1?

Hi, thanks for the advice. I've updated Unraid to 6.11.1, I've modified the VM to: Q35-6.2 and virtio drivers to 0.1.221-1

Inside Windows I've launched virtio-win-gt-x64.msi in hope it will update drivers (don't know if it actually did).

Had to restart the VM a few times to get the lags back (they came back).

Additional info: my VM is running on an SSD in a separate pool (not inside array).

Alright, here an update for everyone who is having a similar issue.

After getting obliterated by our squid, he actually asked for diagnostic files. After a lot of reboots (even using the sleep plugin, I am regulary using), I had no lags. And the reason is, I didn't reboot my PC as I normally do.

Normally, when I change VMs, or start stop them, I was using the android Array app. And as soon as I've run a test with booting from the array application, I got lags. I don't know what exactly is this app doing differently, but the result, at least for me, is lags.

Now I've purchased the android ControlR app and started the VMs a few times with it and didn't get any lags. So for me, the issue is solved.
