Idea Possible? Case (Not Rack) 22-Drive Beast, 21 UnRAID / 1 "Apps"

I like these: APC Back-UPS Pro.  The BR1000G should be well suited for your server.

There's no tutorial for the c-clamp method, but it isn't too difficult.  You just position the clamp over the metal tab and tighten the clamp until the tab folds flat.  It will scratch up the interior of the case a bit, but nothing that you'll see with the case side installed.

You could minimize the scratching by placing a small piece of cloth or towel between the C-clamp and the case.

I've tried that (also tried cardboard and other materials) and I never found anything that worked very well.  Maybe a heavy cloth like canvas or demin would work well.  Thinner fabrics will just rip.

Folded cloth is like a DIY norm, but it is not too effective unless it is strong and soft (old denim or canvas?), and it won't last. So you might be able to do one bend, move the cloth a bit, and continue on.

I started off using folded cotton rags, like the ones used by car mechanics, but these didn't last long. I think it's what works best for you at the end. What I use now is a small piece of an old leather belt on both sides of the clamp, that I glued to a piece of cloth (canvas, I think that came from one of my wife's shopping totes that I 'salvaged').

Well, it's over - after a few tortured days of figuring out how to put a case together again (chipset in the motherboard, man - am I pushing it down too hard or what?), and a little bit of headache with initial network connection...

IT'S ALIVE!

I'm mid-pre-clear on my parity disk and first data disk, and I just snagged a few new 2TBs at Fry's on sale today... Now comes the fun part: actually learning the unRAID system.  Unmenu is active, and I've installed a few packages - still having some trouble with the email application, but I'm sure that's just a matter of trial-and-error - but the future feels wide open at this point.

I can't thank you guys enough for all of your help.

One last question: should I start a new thread in UCD for pictures of this bad boy, or keep it going in here?

Great news, Baelish!

Seeing the photos of your rig at the UCD would be a treat!

Will do - an UCD'er always pays his debts!

Please start a new thread in UCD.  Glad to hear about your success!
