June 28, 201115 yr Hey guys, So here is my dilemma - I'm trying to move to a new motherboard - on the first attempt, the PSU I currently have wasnt enough to power the new mobo/cpu. the only thing I was able to upgrade was a new SATA 8 port card. With knowledge taken from previous, post, I was able to bring up my array with the new sata config because I took a snapshot/jpg of it. I just turned on the PC - stopped the array, and re-arranged it based on the .jpg. So I got the new PSU today, and was really excited to pop open my box - and get the new rig going. Lo and behold, I forgot to take a new jpg. So i put it back together and the network card wont greenlight. Im pretty sure its out, because its been giving me fits on every 3rd bootup for about 6 months now. Anyway - Im kind of hosed. I cant get my array back up to take a picture. For those still sticking with me (rambling, sorry), my question is: Is there a way to use my current array set with the new motherboard/cpu combo - a file or folder, i can just copy/paste? Thanks! Mark
June 28, 201115 yr Am a little confused by your stream of consciousness typing but if your ultimate question is "Is there a way to use my current array set with the new motherboard/cpu combo", the answer is yes. UnRaid doesn't really care about the hardware - as long as you can see all the drives with the mb bios or add in cards you should be fine. As far as your particular situation, what is the issue, that the network card died and so you can't reach the webpage to manage the array? Or that you want to get a copy of that jpg? If the former, I guess you'll need to add a dedicated nic (I recommend Intel). If the latter, you should be able to copy the file to the flash drive via Midnight Commander (MC) while logged into the console. This is assuming that the array is available.

Mark You are very unclear about what you want. What I understand you to be saying is: You had an unRAID system running. You replaced the SATA controller card (or added one). You were able to get it running again using a .jpg of your drive assignments. You then bought a new MB and CPU. You hooked it up to your old PSU and it wouldn't work. You ordered a new PSU. But now that you have the new system running with the new PSU, you realized that you didn't record (.jpg) your drive assignments. So you put the old system back together, but the NIC won't work on it, so you can't use the browser to get a look at your drive assignments. And you are asking if the previous drive assignment is stored somewhere on the flash drive, so you can view it from an unRAID terminal instead of http? Is this correct? Did you mount the drives in your case in a particular order (parity top slot, data1. data2. etc.). If so you could nab the serial numbers off the drives, as that is all you really need. As long as you didn't attempt to reassign the drives with the new setup, you old drive assignments should be in the super.dat file on your HDD. I don't know what form it takes there though. You may also be able to look at an old syslog to gleam some information that might help.
June 28, 201115 yr I don't believe you reset the USB drive so unRAID will show the present disk assignments and the expected disk assignments. The expected disk is shown in smaller italics below the currently assigned disk. You just have to go back and forth between the main page and the devices page until you get them all assigned correctly. The only time you need a screen capture of the disk assignments is when the USB drive dies. If all else fails, you can assign all the disks as data disks, initialize the configuration and then start the array. The unformatted disk will be the parity drive. You can look at the contents on the other disks to see what other disks you want to re-arrange. Peter
June 28, 201115 yr Author Hi Guys Sorry for the rambling, unclear post. I tend to do that when I lack sleep... My question is answered with both: 1) Did you mount the drives in your case in a particular order (parity top slot, data1. data2. etc.). If so you could nab the serial numbers off the drives, as that is all you really need. Yup they are in order in my 5/3 IcyDocks so I can look at the serial numbers in order. 2) The expected disk is shown in smaller italics below the currently assigned disk. Ahh thats cool - thanks for the tip!
