Ronflea
I have unraid with a 4TB parity disk and 2-4TB disks for storage. Have all my disks always backed up (have mostly media) and want to use the parity disk for storage. Can I take the parity disk out of my configuration and have 3 data disks? Quote Link to comment

Its main benefit is to protect from failure of a disk. It is not a backup solution anyway so as long as you are backing up your data and don't care about having to manually recover the contents of a failed disk, parity is not required.
