December 5, 20223 yr Similar topics exist but these are not clear to me, and in other regards the documentation seems lacking. To replace a server, i moved Disks and USB to new hardware, and boot it. My plan is to gradually replace HDD, SSD, and USB key with new hardware. I chose this method because moving disks is faster than copying over LAN, and i hope to not waste any minute setting up a new Unraid server thats basically identical. However the issues below i did not anticipate. Can i just copy the /config/ folder to the new USB key created with the Creator Tool? I have two USB keys, both registered for Unraid Pro. I found this old topic on that rather confusing. What is the recommended way to create a Unraid USB key with a Linux machine? The documentation only mentions Windows and MacOS. And if its intentionally not supported, please just say so in the docs. My old USB key (shows up in BIOS but) wont boot in the new hardware, when selected for boot it just does nothing and ends up in BIOS again. Not a clue except perhaps something to do with TPM UEFI or HCPI. Ideas welcome. Best solution because of (3) would be to just get my new (and verified tested working with Unraid) USB key and give it the proper configuration from my old USB key.
December 5, 20223 yr Community Expert All user settings are in the config folder on the flash drive. Copying the config folder across therefore copies the settings. The only thing you need to check is that you have the correct .key file for a particular USB drive in the config folder on that drive. The link you used is to non-official documentation. What you want is here in the online documentation accessible via the ‘Manual’ link at the bottom of the GUI or the DOCS link at the top of each forum page as that also mentions Linux. if you are trying to boot in UEFI mode make sure the EFI folder on the flash drive does not have a trailing tilde character, and if it does rename the folder to remove it.
