Having a few issues with my server freezing - only way to restart is to pull power and restart

syslog shows the following 2 lines repeated every few seconds (5 second repeats for 30 secsonds and then a 30 second pause after which they repeat again every 5 seconds for 30 seconds )

Nov 30 06:17:06 Tower kernel: request_module: kmod_concurrent_max (0) close to 0 (max_modprobes: 50), for module net-pf-16-proto-9, throttling...
Nov 30 06:17:06 Tower kernel: request_module: modprobe net-pf-16-proto-9 cannot be processed, kmod busy with 50 threads for more than 5 seconds now

It continued for a few days as I was out of town and could not restart the server - then it froze (on Dec 1 in the log)

I restarted it on Dec 5 by power cycling.

Any ideas on where I should be looking?

Is that from the syslog server and does it cover a crash? It's mostly spammed with modprobe messages.

It is from the syslog server

It does nto cover the crash - the last messages are the ones I quoted above - then nothing.

Since there's nothing relevant logged one thing you can try is to boot the server in safe mode with all docker/VMs disabled, let it run as a basic NAS for a few days, if it still crashes it's likely a hardware problem, if it doesn't start turning on the other services one by one.
