Server Crashing Every 1-2 Days

Featured Replies

My Unraid server is crashing every 1-2 days, the system reboots and wants to start a parity check. As far as I can see there isn't anything in the syslogs to indicate a cause, it just restarts.

I have tried everything I can find online:

  • Disabling Ethernet Bridging
  • Replaced Boot USB
  • Running Safe Mode
  • Disabling Docker
  • Disabling VM
  • No Errors from Memtest
  • Receives power from UPS and no other connected devices shutdown
  • No errors are flagged by Fix Common Problems plugin

But it is still crashing.

Is there anything else I can try?

If it is a hardware issue, how can I attempt to isolate the issue?

Specs:

  • Unraid 6.11.5
  • Motherboard: ASRock Z690 PG Riptide

  • CPU: 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-12500

  • Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 4x8GB DDR4 3600MHz

  • Cache: WD Red SN700 1TB NVMe

  • Drives: WD Red Pro 20TB

  • PSU: Fractal Design Ion Gold

Thanks.

Nothing relevant logged, this usually suggests a hardware problem, one thing you can try is to boot the server in safe mode with all docker/VMs disabled, let it run as a basic NAS for a few days, if it still crashes it's likely a hardware problem, if it doesn't start turning on the other services one by one.

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately I have already tried disabling Docker and VM while booting in Safe Mode, so I guess I'll have to start looking at hardware.

Are there any tools or techniques for testing my hardware apart from Memtest? Are there particular components I should be looking into first?

PSU is one of the easiest to test and a common source of problems.
