Old server to new server help.

Featured Replies

I have found my drive bays are full and it's just needs to be done correctly. Before it was a money thing.

Current setup

dell r620 head unit

Lsi hba flashed

Feeding 4u a 12 bay roswell DAS

Tripped psu providing power to the drives. Ghetto as F.... I'm aware.

I have 94 TB of storage.

I'm going to expand into a 24 bay case.

All new hardware besides drives. ( I'm going to add a few drives including a new parity drive. )

I would like to retain the data, and my current setup for plex, sonarr radarr etc.

Any step by step for this?

Do I need a new license for the new hardware?

Also when moving drives over is there an order to this?

I will provide hardware specs for new build. Currently piecing it together.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Any input is appreciated. Thanks

You only need one license if you don't intend to run old and new at the same time.

Usually just move your disks and boot flash to the new server and Unraid will recognize the disks and just keep going as before, assuming no RAID controllers on either system. If you have VMs with pass-through that will have to be done again.

So even with new say a new hba its fine it will just pick up the disks.

If the new controller passes the disk serial numbers and the old controller passes the disk serial numbers, that's all Unraid needs to assign the disks as before.
