Write limit

Recommended Posts

Im coming up on 70gb left on one of my hard drives(2tb) and i dont want to run it right to the bottom. how do i set where it stops writing on that disk?

You cannot set when it "stops" writing if it is already writing.

You can set a "min free" that will force it to not start writing to a specific disk unless at least "min-free" is free.

Problem is, most programs start writing with an initial zero length file, and that almost always fits. Then, as it appended to the file, the disk runs out of space.

That is why the min-free should probably be set to 2 times the size of the largest file you will copy to the drive.  (When set, it is in 1k increments, so, 1000 = 1000k or 1 meg,)

Just in case it's not clear, there is a min. free space setting for each user share that you can set and, as Joe posted, it's in kbytes. The idea behind this is to allow unRAID to start using a different disk for the user share if the current one is too full.

There is no way with a disk to stop filling it. I supposed you're expected to know the disk is full if you're trying to copy to it and besides there is no other place for the data to go if you are copying directly to a disk and the disk is full.
