March 15, 20233 yr I looked through the forum but had issues finding any recent posts about if host managed smr drives are supported by unraid. The older posts that I foundg seemed to say that it was not supported, but it was not clear to me if there is support in the newer versions or if it’s coming? My use case for these would mainly be write once and read many times and the price for the HM SMR drives was significantly cheaper

April 14, 20251 yr I heard they are now supported by btrfs >5.5. Will unraid eventually support them when its btrfs gets greater than v5.5?
April 14, 20251 yr Maybe, but I think that would require a considerable amount of effort from LT to make it work, for very few users, also note that I think you need an HBA that supports HM-SMR.
