The fastest reported writes to an SSD cache drive are around 90 mb/s, whereas HDDs max out around 60 mb/s. There are other benefits to using an SSD as a cache drive, such as low power consumption and no spin up lag. The biggest downsides are small capacity, expensive (compared to HDDs), and the potential to wear out faster than a HDD (depending on how it is used). Link to comment
