MySQL server has gone away

Hi

It seems there was a power shutdown when I was not home and the serever crashed - when I restarted the server I still can log in to the server but the nextcloud and the photoprism server are not available... after checking it seems the mariadb db "has gone away" - what dow it means and how can I solve this?
