Unable to format NVMe pool to ZFS, "Unmountable: Unsupported or no file system" error.

Featured Replies

Hello, I am new to the forum so if I break any rules or am missing information please let me know.

I wanted to change my cache pool to ZFS. So, I moved everything off of it and tried to reformat the pool in ZFS. I got the Unmountable: Unsupported or no file system error. I than deleted and erased the pool completely and reassigned the drives setting file system to ZFS, same error. I followed the Spaceinvader One video on how to change pools to ZFS and again, same error. I set file system to auto and it formated to BTRFS with no issues. I looked around on the forum and looked up some stuff to no avail. I am stuck on what to do or why it is not working.

My hardware config is a i5 12500T, w/ 64gb ddr4, z690 motherboard, and the pool at fault is 2 Samsung 970 evo plus 1tb NVMe. They have been running mirrored just fine all summer and now refuse to format to ZFS.

I rebooted the server and erased the pool than deleted it again and it worked. I am not sure what happened but I assume user error. I think maybe I did not know how to properly delete a pool thank you for your help.
