NOOB Question: HDD Failure?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Version 6.12.3 2023-07-14

I have two refurbed Exos 16tb HDDs and i'm in the process of my setup. Immediately both drives show up with a SMART "error" before i ran a SMART self test. I was able to run a SMART on one drive which "completed without error" and the other had "completed: read failure".

I said all of that to say this, are these drive faulty and should i return them?

I'm still learning so i may have missed info.

I've attached my diagnostic file as suggested.

The one that failed the SMART test should be replaced, the other one is fine, just a couple of CRC errors, that's usually SATA cable related.

Hiya,

One last question, the other HDD with the CRC error, should i be weary of it. I check the log history after the SMART test completed the life span is low. Is this something to worry about?

No, but if the CRC errors keep increasing replace the SATA cable.
