August 27, 20232 yr 6.12.3 Unraid Version I've currently got a single drive in a zfs pool - I want to add another disk(s) to this pool. Can I add disk(s) without losing the data on the original drive or will I have to reformat it?
August 27, 20232 yr Community Expert You can add a single disk to create a mirror, but cannot for example add more devices to create a raidz pool, what type of pool do you want to create?
August 28, 20232 yr Author I wanted to expand the size of the pool rather than adding redundancy. I suppose this is the pro/negative vs using zfs over xfs/brtfs I suppose the method is to stop all my containers, let mover finish, backup any files left behind in share, add drives, restore files?
August 28, 20232 yr Community Expert zfs is not as flexible, you could add one device to create a mirror then add another two devices to expand the pool with another mirror, but it's not possible to transform for example an existing single device pool into a raidz.
