HarryRosen Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Hello I am new to unraid but noticed some errors in my syslog Sep 8 07:18:13 HOMESERVER kernel: ata5.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen (Errors) Sep 8 07:18:13 HOMESERVER kernel: ata5.00: failed command: IDENTIFY DEVICE (Minor Issues) Sep 8 07:18:13 HOMESERVER kernel: ata5.00: cmd ec/00:00:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/40 tag 0 pio 512 in (Drive related) Sep 8 07:18:13 HOMESERVER kernel: res 40/00:ff:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/50 Emask 0x4 (timeout) (Errors) Sep 8 07:18:13 HOMESERVER kernel: ata5.00: status: { DRDY } (Drive related) Sep 8 07:18:13 HOMESERVER kernel: ata5: hard resetting link (Minor Issues) Sep 8 07:18:15 HOMESERVER kernel: ata5: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 310) (Drive related) Sep 8 07:18:15 HOMESERVER kernel: ata5.00: configured for UDMA/100 (Drive related) Sep 8 07:18:15 HOMESERVER kernel: ata5: EH complete (Drive related)Sep 8 07:28:26 HOMESERVER kernel: ata5.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen (Errors) does this mean the drive is going bad? I believe this is my cache drive, since it says ata5 would that mean it is host5 in the device list? also how would I go about replacing it? Do I just copy all the data off then unmount it then add the new drive remount and copy the data back on? I am running a couple apps in a .custom folder
mbryanr Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Run a smart test and add a syslog to identify ata5 by the serial number, also reseat power and SATA cables to the drive. I got similar read errors yesterday, and saw the pending sectors reallocated increase from 0 to 50 in a short period.
HarryRosen Posted September 8, 2011 Author Posted September 8, 2011 I think the drive is bad, I have gone through so many of those drives it's crazy. I am just going to replace it. But can you give me an idea on the best way to replace it? I am thinking i would just do this Copy and data off the drive. Unmount all the drives and stop the array remove the cache drive from the devices tab shutdown server and replace the cache drive with the new one readd it to the devices tab then copy the data back to the cache drive and it should move anything that i copied off at night as usual this correct?
dgaschk Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 ata5 is not likely disk5. Post a complete syslog.
HarryRosen Posted September 9, 2011 Author Posted September 9, 2011 I found out which disk it was, it was that seagate that was my cache drive. I replaces it and all is well now.
