Zimaboard eMMC as boot drive

Featured Replies

I know u need to use a usb for Unraid to run, but I was curious if there could be a workaround to let Unraid boot from the build in eMMC memory of the Zimaboard? I have the 32GB model.

Edit: Would it be possible if I retrieved the GUID of the eMMC and bound that to the license of Unraid? Since my understanding is that the reason you need a usb is so that it can verify it with the unique GUID of said usb and see if the license connected to that usb is correct.

Unless youre using a machine that has no USB ports then you are wasting your time researching for 2 reasons.

1. If your machine is either so small or old that theres no USB ports then you should be looking into that instead.

2. The unRAID USB drive is only read from to boot the system at which case its all loaded and ran from RAM.

It has 0 bearing on performance of any kind at any time in the use of the system.

Problem is you need the boot loader to be able to pull the GUID. LT has been resistant to calls for alternate binding (or even boot migration) for a while now.

I would use the internal storage as a cache pool. If size is a concern, don't use it to cache the array shares, but instead host the appdata and system shares.

Unraid doesn't appear to see the eMMC storage.  Has anyone had luck with getting the eMMC to show up?  As the above poster mentioned, I want to use it for the appdata/system shares to run a couple of very small containers.
