cpthook
Hello Forum, I have set up my new unRAID drives; three 1.5TB WD C. Green for data and one 2TB C. Green for parity. I did not set up my shares in any meticulous way like some of the pro's in here have, I just created one share for my movie files and included disks 1,2,3 w/High Water allocation and left Split Level blank. All drives are connected to on-board SATA ports, PCI-e controller card is not being used yet! Currently I'm adding movies files from my externals on to new array and it looks like unRAID is spreading them across all three data drives, is this ideal? Issue.. I cannot seem to be able to stream movies to HTPC without buffering issues particularly when using MPC-hc(unplayable) but when I use XBMC there is no stutter but I notice little "Jumps" here and there(dropped frames). I'm using a Dynex Gigabit 5 port router and both MOBO's on HTPC and unRAID server support Gigabit. Transfer speeds as of now are 85-90MB/s read and 20-22.5MB/s write. Here is server specs with cool photos!!http://www.flickr.com/photos/cpthook26/sets/72157627790229610/ I read in Limetech WiKi something about "jumbo packets" may improve performance but was unclear on directions, will have to read up more, but would this apply to me? I have read other posts with others in here having similar issues, any suggestions would be appreciated!! Link to comment
Kilack
With regards to your setup, yes it will spread them over 3 disks.. ideal? who knows.. depends if you want all 3 drives spun up when you access your movies etc.. Some people seem to like the high water allocation, i prefer fill the disk method myself, means you are going to use less disks generally, also makes it easier to do backups as you have your data on less drives. oops after reading your message I see it does seem to be running at gigabit speed.. so removed my first part Link to comment
dgaschk
What are your system specs? Are you running any add-ons? Show the output of "top". Link to comment
cpthook
What are your system specs? Are you running any add-ons? Show the output of "top". Check link above for system specs... only add-on I'm running is unMENU. I installed some tools from the unMENU pkgmanager but that's it!! Keep in mind, this issues seems to be specific to MPC-hc, files stream fine so far in XBMC but still testing to make sure its stable. Below is my Top Processes, I hope that's what you meant! Beer40oz
I noticed the same issue on my rig.... It used to play flawless on XBMC when the HD's where straight connected to the mobo (HTPC). Now that I have build my unraid rig once in a while I will have dropped frames and also once in a while I will get the BUFFERING about 2-3 seconds and then the movie plays flawless from there on. (and this is a 5 gig movie) This is annoying. Even my music will stutter once in a while. I also have a D LINK gigabit switch and CAT6 cables. I can transfer files to the unRAID server at 35 MB/s and read at 90 MB/s Please help.... do I need a new switch? I also have read posts here with people and the same issue and no fix. *Update.... Well tonight I turned on the pc and played that movie that dropped frames on the same spot and yes it did. Usually it goes at 30 MB/s on that part. So I enabled DXVA2 and on the same spot if went away. So I left DXVA2 on and watched a new movie and I did not get any dropped frames and no BUFFERING issues. Now this is weird. I know my Phenom x4 can play anything with out dxva2 but I may be wrong. Hope it stays this way. Link to comment
