First Build Spec Check

I am stoked to get started with unRAID. I use SageTV and have about 13TB of HDD full of blurays. Everything is hooked up to my server through usb hubs. Needless to say, I am in dire need of unRAID.

I am wanting to use 12 drives @7200 RPM for streaming multiple full res blurays at the same time. 1 parity and 1 cache drive.

Here is what I am planning to buy for my storage server, thanks in advance for any feedback:

Case $70 NZXT Hades Crafted Series HADE-001BK - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146064

MOBO $60 ASUS M4A78LT-M - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131672R (should I be worried about open box?)

CPU $62 AMD Athlon II X2 250 Regor 3.0GHz Socket AM3 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor ADX250OCGMBOX - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103903

PSU $120 Seasonic SS-560KM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151098

RAM $15 Kingston ValueRAM 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) KVR1333D3N9/2G - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134812

Drive Bays (x3) $90 COOLER MASTER STB-3T4-E3-GP - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817993002&Tpk=cooler%20master%20hard%20drive%20bay

SATA Exp. $100 SUPERMICRO AOC-SASLP-MV8 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816101358

+ cables

I did not really look at  your specs, but i did notice at a glance,

that case wont hold 3X COOLER MASTER STB-3T4-E3-GP's

i'd also consider just going with green drives for the storage drives. 7200 is fine for cache and parity though.

you will still be able to play multiple blu rays at once with greens.

Thanks for the response. I will definitely consider green drives instead of 7200 rpm drives.

As for the case, it says that it has 9 5.25 in drive bays and each cooler master fills 3 5.25 inch drive bays. Am I missing something?

Thanks.

Beyond the case and drive bays- the rest of your specs should give you trouble free performance in unRAID. Though using a lot of power, if you stick with 7200 drives. I believe Greens should be the way to go.

Even the 8112 Realtek NIC in that board has been safe to use by others here.

Thanks for the feedback.

I still don't see the problem with the case fitting 3 of the cooler master driver bays. It has 9 5.25in drive bays so technically it should work. What am I missing?

Thanks.

If the front bezel of the case is removable then you might be able to fit all the drive cages.  Alternatively, you can remove the front bezels of the drive cages and they should fit that way.  However, the cages and case won't fit together as they are out-of-the-box.

If you want them to work out of the box then you want a case that has 9 removable faceplates, such as the Azza Helios 910.

Thanks for the response Raj.

I have some space constraints and my case needs to be less than 18.5" tall and still hold 12 drives. This is one of the only cases that seemed to work. I'll let you know how it goes.

According to the NZXT manual for this case, the Nine 5.25” bay setup consists of Five 5.25“ (accessible from the front), and Four lower bays.

The lower 5.25" bays are for 3.5” drives (HDD). They are converted bays (by using 5.25 to 3.5" brackets inside the lower bays).  The two areas are separated by hardware, that would make the use of the 3 multiple drive bay adapters almost impossible.
