When Rebuilding HDD - What Happens if Power Goes out?

Featured Replies

Greetings,

I've have recently allowed a drive to rebuild following an upgrade to a bigger one.  I notice while doing this, that is states on the webGUI that cancelling the rebuild will result in the array being unprotected (I'm assuming the parity info changes during the rebuild?)

Anyway, it made me wonder what happens should the power go off.  I do have a UPS, but it only lasts 30-40 mins in a power outage.

Can the rebuild simply be re-started once the power comes back on?

Or

Do you have to put the original disk back in and calc parity again - Then start over?

You could re-start the process when power returns.  You would not put back the original disk.

Thx Joe, that's good to know. I was worried it would really mess things up.  :'(
