October 21, 201114 yr Can anyone tell me if this is significant? 199 UDMA_CRC_Error_Count 0x0032 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 8. This line was taken from the Smart status report on one of two WD10EALS drives in my array. the last number "8" is the raw value and I believe means 8 errors. Seems like a pretty low number and I think drives often have some type of error in reading that they can self correct, but the other drive shows: 199 UDMA_CRC_Error_Count 0x0032 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 0 The drives are a couple years old and were bought at the same time. The drive with the 8 errors has just under 6000 power on hours while the drive without errors has around 9600.
October 21, 201114 yr That counter is the number of SATA interface errors, so it might be caused by a poor SATA cable or one that is not firmly connected to the drive or motherboard. I seem to recall that it will reset to zero at some point (perhaps when you run a short SMART test). Regards, Stephen

The cable is part of a SAS breakout cable. I'll check ot make sure it's seated right but don't have another on hand right now. If it pops back up or gets worse, I guess I'll order another. Thanks.
