Boot Problem

Featured Replies

I'm new to this, but I think I"m doing it right. I first ran syslinux, which I verified copied one hidden file onto my USB drive. Then I copied 4.2.3 UnRaid onto the same flash drive. This consisted of

2 txt files

1 cfg file

1 c32 file

and 3 files with no extension.

Also a config folder with 5 more files.

Based on the instructions, thats all I need right? It seemed a bit ambiguous because the homepage mentions a link where the rest of the syslinux distro can be found, but it seems I don't actually need that, right?

I've tried booting it on two different PCs and both say invalid boot disc.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

try these options.

Most of the problems I have had had to deal with the Master Boot Recoird not being set.

================================

These are only in the Windows version:

-m Mbr; install a bootable MBR sector to the beginning of the drive.

-a Active; marks the partition used active (=bootable)

There is a section of the main lime-technology web page dealing with troubleshooting usb booting.  The -mbr parameter of syslinux should really be included there.  It made my flash work, when it wouldn't before.

Well, I was able to fix it, although it only worked on one PC, not the other. I first tried the -m option, but that didn't work, so I then I did the -ma, which also didn't work at first, but then I tried my other PC which did work. I had tried the second PC before I used any of the switches, but not with just the -m, so that may have fixed it on it's own, can't tell now.

And in case anyone else is scratching their head over this, like I was initially, the solution, in more detail is when you run the command

c:\syslinux.exe D:

insert a command line switch so it would either be:

c:\syslinux.exe -m D:

or

c:\syslinux.exe -ma D:

where D: is the drive letter of your flash drive.

Thanks for the help, and now to get things configured ;)
