March 6, 20242 yr My USB got fried with my UnRaid install. Luckily I do have a backup of my configs, however it was previous to me moving some drives around and adding a few additional drives and I didn't make a backup of my most recent config. I have formatted a new USB drive and copied over my older config files, but now my issue is that I do not know the order of my drives. I was hoping that I could just mount my cache drive to gain access to the /appdata share. I had a plugin called Disk Location installed which did have the configuration of my drives. Is it possible to just mount the cache to gain access to /appdata and then see if I can recover the config files for that plugin?
March 6, 20242 yr Community Expert I hope you will not make this mistake in the future. Any change in the webUI is part of your config. It is especially important to have a backup after any disk assignment changes. If you only have single parity the order doesn't matter. If you have dual parity you are basically going to have to rebuild parity after you get your disks assigned. The very most important thing is to not assign any data disk to any parity slot, or it will be overwritten by parity. Do you have any idea which disks are parity? https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/manual/changing-the-flash-device/#what-to-do-if-you-have-no-backup-and-do-not-know-your-disk-assignments
March 6, 20242 yr Author I do, but not he correct order and I had assigned dual parity. And definitely lesson learned!
March 6, 20242 yr Community Expert Solution I don't know if Unassigned Devices will let you mount that single nvme without starting the array. Probably older version of UD didn't but maybe later version will, Any linux should be able to mount it. If you know which disks are parity you can just New Config and assign disks in whatever order and rebuild parity. Be careful with the parity slot assignments as mentioned.
March 6, 20242 yr Author That's great to know! My understanding was that the data drives had to be in the correct slot assignments! Thanks for the quick assistance @trurl Much appreciated!
March 6, 20242 yr Community Expert Probably that plugin keeps its information in config on your flash drive. But if that is not current then it won't help. Typically plugins will not store any of its configuration anywhere else.
March 6, 20242 yr Community Expert I don't use that plugin but I would be extremely surprised if it put anything in appdata.
March 6, 20242 yr Author Quick question for you @trurl, is it possible to assign the parity drives as part of the array, start the array and see if all the space is used up? Then stop the array, and assign those 2 drives as parity? To be specific, I added 4x20tb drives. 2 of them were assigned as parity drives, but I can't remember which two I assigned of the four. Looks like it should come up as unmountable per this thread: Edited March 6, 20242 yr by mike_j_jensen
