Drive Making Noise

Featured Replies

I have one drive that I can hear making a clicking noise, problem is I don't know which one it is. What should I look for in the logs that would help me ifind out which drive is the problem. I would like to get it resolved before it fails.  Thanks for the help

With unMenu you could spin them up one a a time.

I think it might be my parity drive, since there are only 2 drives spinning now. here is the smart report from that drive and I don't know how to read it but somethings don't looks like my other drives

1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate    0x000f  104  099  006    Pre-fail  Always      -      7213641

3 Spin_Up_Time            0x0003  100  100  000    Pre-fail  Always      -      0

4 Start_Stop_Count        0x0032  100  100  020    Old_age  Always      -      678

5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct  0x0033  100  100  036    Pre-fail  Always      -      0

7 Seek_Error_Rate        0x000f  078  060  030    Pre-fail  Always      -      4371488392

9 Power_On_Hours          0x0032  091  091  000    Old_age  Always      -      8408

10 Spin_Retry_Count        0x0013  100  100  097    Pre-fail  Always      -      0

I am thinking it's the Seek_Error_Rate shouldn't that be 0?

This is not helpful.

No, it is whatever the manufacturer wants it to be, and they don't tell anybody.  The normalize value is 78, and is higher than the failure threshold of 30, so as far as the drive manufacturer is concerned, the drive passes the SMART test.
