I've done some further testing.  I currently have the boot mode disabled in the firmware.  With the card installed in the machine i can get to bzroot.........ready. and then nothing.  With the card removed i get the kernel posting and normal boot.  I have tried booting with the card installed and my drives in both port1 and port0 as well as not attached at all.  I am really at a loss.

Did you try using the other PCIe x16 slot? I was testing a M1015 a few days ago and could not get the LSI GUI. I moved it to a different PCIe slot and it worked fine.

Ill try that, good suggestion, i am however getting both MB Bios post and LSI Bios post with full working bios menus.  I am even able to boot memtest86 just fine.  It seems there may be some known issues with EVGA boards and LSI cards.

Updated to latest EVGA P33 Bios on my nForce 680i SLI board and still same issues.  Also tried putting the LSI card in the primary PCIx slot.  I am not trying to see if i can get the board to boot headless without my 8800GTS card installed, but this is proving to be difficult.  :(  I may have to go back to my onboard SATA controller until i have the time/money to buy a server board and processor.

-edit-  Same issues when i try to boot the ESXi install cd, flashing cursor after the boot loader prompt to load ESXi or boot from internal drive.  >:(

you have looked st every possible setting in the bios that might set or control the PCIe slots?

Turned off anything you do not need in the bios like sound cards?

It is quite possible that the LSI card wont work on that board. I would not say that is true until everything has been exhausted. I know I have an LGA1155 board that does not supply power the way the lsi card wants it and it refuses to work. It is possible the Nforce board was set up for graphic cards only?

If you have a spare drive laying around, try installing windows? maybe that might give you some insight if the card works.

Considering going to BestBuy and picking up the cheapest PCI graphics card they have on the shelf to see if it is in-fact a graphics card pcix issue.  I ran into a random forum post saying people were having issues only when they had graphics card in of the x16slots with the LSI card in the other.

Honestly I think I am better off just using the onboard SATAII controller until I build a true ESXi server.
