tlastrange Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 Greetings. I had a *bit* of a water issue near my very original unRAID. It has like the version 1.0 basic intel motherboard that Lime Technology offerred as a kit when they first announced this product. I couldn't even tell you what the model number is... I have 12 older IDE drives and 2 SATA drives. The system has been drying out for a few days. I power it on and I have fans and lights on the motherboard. The USB stick flashes for a second and then goes out. I plugged a monitor in and I have nothing, the BIOS doesn't even appear to be booting up. So I'm dead in the water (so to speak). Anyone have suggestions on a very bare bones motherboard that I could swap in and try? It'll need IDE on the motherboard with SATA ports for the newer drives. I use two additional IDE cards to connect the bulk of the older drives. I have no idea if the drives are still good but I figured if I could get a cheap motherboard, that might be my first step toward potential recovery. Or if anyone has any other suggestions... Thanks, Tom L.
Johnm Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 I would guess that you need a supermicro MBD-C2SEA. that can be used for both an IDE or SATA build. I am guessing your CPU is LGA775. If so, you might be able to reuse that. you might also want to verify it is not the power supply that shorted out. I am not sure if water damage is a you knocked over a glass of water or it went under in a flood. if it went under, the drives might be compromised also..
Joe L. Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 I would guess that you need a supermicro MBD-C2SEA. If an original 1.0 unRAID, it was not a supromicro board, but instead, it was an "Intel D865GLCLK" Your description of the mix of IDE and SATA connectors seems to support this. If so, a quick google search found this: http://www.serversupply.com/products/part_search/pid_lookup.asp?pid=124599 $44 with free shipping seems fair. I don't know if it makes sense to spend a lot on a replacement MB of that same vintage. Perhaps another unRAID user has one they removed and replaced from their original server. (I have one in my older server, but it is still being used)
stchas Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 Or if anyone has any other suggestions... You have a PM. Kevin
tlastrange Posted December 18, 2011 Author Posted December 18, 2011 Yes, the Intel model is what I have. I swapped out a power supply last night and got the same behavior. Kevin, I sent you a PM and an email. Thanks
tlastrange Posted December 23, 2011 Author Posted December 23, 2011 Plugged in my replacement Intel motherboard today and it booted right up. It's running a parity check right now but it looks like every drive survived! Kevin, thanks for your help!
stchas Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Great news, Tom! Especially good to hear the drives were not damaged. Kevin

tlastrange Posted December 23, 2011 Author Posted December 23, 2011 Rather than water rising, it was more like my server got caught in a rain storm. I have one of these cases (http://goo.gl/qREni) with a fan in the top. Water would definitely be pouring over the motherboard but my drives were spared.
